1-13-94 The use of ATZ / AT&W
Any program that uses ATZ in the initialization or command string, is
expecting that it is the ONLY software that you will be using on the
computer with that modem. As that is extremely unlikely, we dissaprove of
that practice strongly. Replace the ATZ with (99% of the time) AT&F&C1&D2.
Put in whatever they use for a carraige return (if they show one). If there
are additional parameters put them between the above string and the
carraige return character(s). (Most often the ^M is used for carraige
return.)
If you must use ATZ, then I suggest you store it in profile '1'
(profile '0' is default) so any program that requires default will work
correctly. Store with AT...&W1 and then instead of ATZ use ATZ1 and you
will use your stored profile '1', leaving profile '0' alone as default. If
the particular software cannot be set to ATZ1, then you can temporarily
make profile -1 the default by using AT&Y1 in a terminal program (you don't
have to save &Y1). Use AT&F&W to restore profile 0 to default. Then you
can then restore the modem to factory default quickly with ATZ which will
call profile 0. AT&Y0 will return profile -0 to default (you could put &Y0
in the init string of the terminal/fax init you commonly use.)
ATZ or ATZ1 must be the ONLY commands in a string. Calling Z in a
string overwrites any command ahead of it, and any command after Z does not
get issued.
